Boardmasters is the biggest week in Newquays summer and it came upon us over the days of the 5th-9th august. Big names in the surf comp and also huge names headlining the music festival!
The first day of the surf competition at Boardmasters and it was pumping waves and clean, we couldn't of had better conditions. From having alright results in the UK Pro Surf Tour I was seeded through to round 2 which was nice. My heat was later in the afternoon and conditions were getting prime is it hit low tide at Fistral beach, I had a pretty stacked heat with Sean Cox, Max Payne and George Picking, it was anyone's game.
The horn sounded for the start of the heat and I managed to straight away grab a good waves at the start which was my highest scoring wave of the heat which put me in a good place, I also managed to back my score up with a decent score half way though the heat, the heat finished Sean Cox and I went through to round 3.
Round 3 was being held the next day on the Thursday, I had been put into heat of the morning and the waves were pretty awful, how a day can't change! It was a couple of foot and onshore wind, I also had the hardest heat of the contest with reigning champion from last year Jock Barnes and Edwardo Delperello from France and Tom Butler, a massive heat.
It was luck of the draw if either surfers got an alright wave as there were mostly rubbish messy surf coming through so it was the lucky ones on the day, unfortunately I couldn't get a decent one and was scrapping for half waves which wouldn't get me through in a heat like that.
So my Boardmasters contest came to and end, but the Boardmasters festival was just starting!
Had an epic weekend of music watching some massive acts, Bastille, Groove Armada and Lethal Bizzle to name a few!
Have the rest of the uk pro surf tour season to come and hopefully make some good results along the way
