In its second year running, the film selection originally began in Australia last year with a mission to celebrate the ocean by sharing some of the most amazing ocean films with audiences over the world. Not only does the Film Festival highlight some absolutely stunning filmography and photography, it is also proving to be a strong advocate for clean and safer oceans, raising awareness for both the people and the wildlife that inhabit it.
The mini documentaries cover a wide variety of topics, from big wave surfer Ramon Navarro's rise to fame and his campaign to keep his iconic surfing hometown Punta De Lobos from becoming over developed, to top surf photographer Chris Buckard’s quest to capture some stunning images of surfing in the Arctic and free diver Hanli Prinsloo’s efforts to raise awareness for marine conservation and cleaner beaches.
With donations being made to environmental organisation's such as Surfers Against Sewage and Project Aware with every ticket sold, the film festival reminds us all how important, beautiful and special our oceans are and how necessary it is for us to keep them clean and protected.
