Lakey Peak Sumbawa
I arrived in Lakey Peak on a miserable rainy evening, a classic off season tropical thunder storm.
The trip in Sumbawa was only planned to be for two weeks but it gradually got longer and longer as the surf was just too good to leave. I ended up staying for a month and a half before flying back to Bali.
Every morning the wind was perfect and only had to rely on the size of the swell, which was mostly decent, and a fair few bigger days.
I stayed in the Balumba hotel and had a front room overlooking the perfect Lakey Peak. It had aircon which was a huge bonus.
It was paradise and my days consisted of surf, eat, surf, eat, surf, eat and sleep. There are lots of other world-class waves within a small moped ride. You could choose where to go depending on the size of the swell and which stage of tide but there was always a good wave to have.
There was a wicked crowd of guys and girls there and a heap from England so it was nice to see some familiar faces and get to know some amazing people along the way. The locals were a top laugh as well wanting photos and selfies every time you walked by.
When the surf was on the local photographers would come out on their little boats and sit in the channel and take shots looking into the wave, which is a pretty wicked and different angle. I was happy to buy these shots as there pretty amazing quality and amazing memories of my first trip to Lakey peak.
